Donahoe Will Be in Good Shape When He Leaves U$P$



Last fiscal year, even before she was chosen to be the future the Postmaster General, Megan J. Brennan was the U.S. Postal Service's highest paid employee.

But don't fret for retiring Postmaster General Pat Donahoe. He will leave USPS on Feb. 1 with a pension having an estimated present value of more than $4 million, according to a financial report the agency filed Friday.

Brennan's FY2014 base salary of $236,536 was $42,000 less than Donahoe's. But with a $20,000 bonus and a $77,000 gain in the value of her FERS retirement plan, her total compensation of $351,655 came out $3,000 ahead of Donahoe's.

Before some grandstanding politicians tries to score points by blathering about overpaid postal executives, consider this: The CEOs of USPS's slightly smaller competitors, FedEx and UPS, earned more than $14 million and $10 million, respectively -- versus $1.8 million for the top five USPS executives combined.

  1. I find this very disturbing....as a Postal employee, EAS, my salary has been frozen (with the exception of a 1% increase several months ago) for more than 4 years. Craft employees and Executives are seeing increases but not mid management. Doesn't seem equal.

  5. Postal management at EVERY level is already overpaid. They sit behind their desks and tell people how to do their jobs. The problem is, that they have no idea what their employees actually do. There are former clerks supervising carriers. Clerks have no idea what actually goes on out on te street. Management also "just following the order from above" is total B.S. When an order conflicts with a carrier's function or carrier's safety, they don't over-ride it "Just doing what I'm told". Hitler's men said the same thing, look where it got them.

  6. From a career carriers point of view (retiring after 30 yrs. August 2015), it is glaringly apparent to me that MANY managers are where they are because they couldn't cut it on the street, and have little idea of the realities that carriers face daily.

  7. The Board of Governors know that they are in violation of regulations--there are more Republicans than allowed.
    USPS management has been blindsided by the push to attack postal clerks--EAS employees forgot to protect their own rights!
    Supervisors and postmasters who are not connected are threatened and underpaid.
    And they are forced to cook the books and falsify documentation under the shady SOX compliance certification.
    Donohoe and his masters (heard of Pitney Bowes etc who can mail and self-certify what amount of postage to pay?) have successfully harmed more American decent paying working lives than many foreign enemies you can think of. Is this true? Let's count the ways.

  8. Talking of Financial Good Shape--USPS had one rule for all mailers and REVENUE PROTECTION was a key requirement.
    Not for many years.

    Can any readers think of Revenue Protection as the goal of anyone other than PoSTAL INnspectors who are frequently overriden when inspectors find fraud?

    PMG Donohoe's reign saw the attack on workers and disrespect for abiding by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

    The response to my EEO settlement was OIC will try to abide by the contract.

  9. after checkin out the Financial Report, The pmg (when appointed) asked not to award him any additional compensation beyond salary and general types of bennie,s.(NOT SURE HOW TO TAKE THAT)What is your opine? also I seen his accrued annual amount was 238.000? couple of other question I hav willpost later

  10. Take a look at the carriers for UPS and FedEx. Then compare them to carriers of the USPS. It seems that USPS carriers go out of their way to dress differently than everyone else, and look as sloppy as they can. Ups and FedEx all dress the same and look good. So as a former carrier and supervisor, I say dress poorly instead of the way your supposed to and worry about doing just a barely above what is expected. Possibly you can lose another 9 Billion next year.

  12. First off, USPS is not a business. It is a public service, and therefore should be viewed as such. You do not expect other public services to turn a profit.
    I have been here 36 years and have never seen such an astounding array of unqualified people running an organization. Have they all graduated high school? Certainly college is not required, or desired. So many of the managers I see are people I worked with at one time or another, and they were not known then for their "work ethic". Makes it hard for me to care about my job. I find that embarassing.
